Python Starter Product

Python Starter 0.2.0 brings local Python projects, guided courses, and API references to iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

A practical Python workspace

Learn by writing code

Seven courses provide 140 lessons in English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. Python Basics includes 20 free lessons. Learning Pro provides access to the six paid courses available in your region:

Lessons include prerequisites and learning points, explanations, examples with input/output, editable exercises, local checks, and reference implementations. Exercise code and progress are saved locally.

Projects and workspaces

Projects use actual source files and remain in the app’s private directory by default. On Mac, choose a workspace folder, move the current workspace, or open an existing Python Starter workspace. Opening a workspace switches the active location without merging or moving the previous workspace.

On iPhone and iPad, Settings can move projects into the app’s Documents folder, accessible through Files → On My iPhone/iPad → Python Starter. This folder still belongs to the app: deleting the app also deletes these files. Back up important projects. A Mac workspace outside the app container normally remains after removing the app; select it again to restore access. Files stored in a cloud-synced folder may be synced by that folder’s provider.

IDE Pro and Learning Pro

The free edition includes one editable local project and the Python Basics course. IDE Pro is an optional one-time purchase for multiple projects and full project management. Learning Pro is a separate non-renewing subscription for 1, 3, or 12 months, providing paid-course access for the selected period. It does not renew automatically and does not grant permanent access. Neither purchase includes the other; course exercises do not require IDE Pro.

Local execution and networking

No app account is required. Editing and local execution do not require a network connection. Purchases, purchase restoration, course/reference updates, and app update checks require network access. Programs using Requests or other networking APIs contact the services specified by your code.

App-managed Flask servers listen on 127.0.0.1 with a dynamically assigned port. The app supplies the server address to client code as sys.argv[1]. These are local learning servers, not a public hosting service. The app provides no cloud sync or cloud backup of its own.

Requirements and compatibility

Requires iOS/iPadOS 17 or macOS 14 or later. CPython and the included libraries ship with the app. Arbitrary pip installation and third-party native wheels are not supported. Device resources and platform restrictions apply; continuous background servers and compatibility with every production project are not guaranteed.
